Two days. Real-world instruction. A complete view of ammonia refrigeration.

Operating an industrial ammonia refrigeration system requires more than awareness—it requires understanding. Bassett Ammonia360™ is a hands-on, real-world training program designed to give operators, maintenance teams, and facility leaders a practical, complete view of ammonia refrigeration systems so they can operate more confidently, safely, and effectively.

This immersive two-day training course delivers a well-rounded understanding of ammonia refrigeration by combining foundational knowledge with real-world system behavior, equipment operation, and industry best practices.

What Is Bassett Ammonia360™?

Bassett Ammonia360™ is a 2-day ammonia refrigeration training course designed for those who operate, maintain, and support industrial ammonia refrigeration systems. The course delivers a comprehensive understanding of how these systems work—covering equipment, safety, controls, and best practices—so participants can better recognize normal operation, identify risks, and make informed decisions.

The result: greater confidence, improved awareness, and safer system operation.

Course Structure:

Day 1: Foundations of Ammonia Refrigeration

Day 1 focuses on building a strong understanding of ammonia refrigeration fundamentals and safe system operation.

Topics include:

  • Ammonia Awareness & Safety
Properties of ammonia, associated hazards, exposure recognition, and safe operating behaviors
  • Refrigeration Fundamentals
The “why” behind the refrigeration cycle and what normal system operation looks like
  • The Basic Refrigeration Cycle
Compression, condensation, expansion, and evaporation—explained through real-world system behavior
  • System Overview
How major components work together and how operator actions influence system performance

Day 2: System Components, Operations, and Safety

Day 2 builds on the foundation with deeper insight into equipment, controls, and incident prevention.

Topics include:

  • Single screw, twin screw, and reciprocating compressor functions
  • Screw compressor oil recirculation and loading/unloading
  • Evaporative condenser designs, operation, and best practices
  • Evaporator designs and applications
  • Hot gas defrost best practices and common system incidents
  • Ammonia valve operation, types, and applications
  • Ammonia pump types and applications

Optional Day 3: Process Safety Management (PSM)

The optional third day provides a practical overview of OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) requirements for ammonia refrigeration systems.

Topics include:

  • The purpose and intent of PSM/RMP—and why it matters
  • Key PSM elements such as operating procedures, mechanical integrity, training, management of change, and incident investigation
  • How PSM ties directly to day-to-day operations and maintenance
  • Common PSM gaps seen in real facilities
  • Roles and responsibilities of operators, maintenance staff, supervisors, and leadership in supporting compliance

Taught by Field‑Proven Professionals

Training is led by Bassett’s RETA-authorized instructor and experienced industrial refrigeration professionals who work with ammonia systems every day in the field—not just in a classroom. Participants gain practical insight grounded in real-world experience, not theory alone.

Who Should Attend?

  • Operators and maintenance technicians (new or experienced)
  • Supervisors and reliability or maintenance leads
  • Safety or EHS professionals supporting refrigeration operations
  • Anyone responsible for decisions that impact ammonia system safety, reliability, and uptime
