Bassett Mechanical offers internship opportunities across a variety of departments, giving driven young professionals the chance to explore different career paths. These internships provide valuable exposure to diverse roles within the organization and offer hands-on experience that fosters both personal growth and professional development.
This summer, we were thrilled to welcome Angelina B. as an intern in our Thermatech Engineering department. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Angelina to learn more about her background and how this internship is helping her take meaningful steps toward her goal of a career in mechanical engineering.
MEET ANGELINA
Q. First off, tell us about yourself!
I am a first-generation college student attending UW-Platteville for Mechanical Engineering, planning to graduate in 2026. I want to expand my knowledge with a master’s or a PhD after I graduate with my undergrad. My hobbies include photography, reading, video games, and 3D modeling.
Q. What made you want to pursue a Mechanical Engineering career?
My dad has always been a hands-on worker, which made me want to do something similar. I wanted to incorporate science and math into my career, as I enjoy both areas. With all that, I fell upon mechanical engineering in eighth grade, and I’ve stuck with it ever since.
Q. What have you been working on this summer?
So far this summer, I’ve been doing a lot of redraws for companies. I’ve also been trying to figure out how to automate specific entries for easier drawing generation. Transferring one company’s drawings into our format poses challenges, but I think I’m close to finding a solution.
Q. What is your dream job?
I’ve always been fascinated with aerospace engineering, and that’s what I want to pursue when I go back to school for my master’s or PhD. With that in mind, I would love to work with super sophisticated pressure vessels, F1 vehicles, or anything aerospace-related.
Q. What skills or insights have you developed so far?
So far, I’ve enhanced my ability to work in a group. Learning how to communicate effectively in emails isn’t something I’ve experienced much. The group flows so well here, which made this skill easier to learn. Another aspect was pushing myself out of my comfort zone when asking questions. It’s good to ask questions, even if you’re afraid you’re wrong.
Q. What are you hoping to gain from this experience?
I was hoping to gain knowledge of what the professional environment is like. This has helped me see where my degree could lead me to in the real world. I value gaining the work and people experience you don’t get in the classroom. I’ve also learned what to look for in companies, as Bassett has set the bar high for what to value in an employer.
Q. Why did you choose Bassett to pursue a Thermatech Engineering internship?
I saw your booth at the career fair and decided to shoot my shot. While talking to you guys, it just clicked that this is the company I wanted to work for. I put all my eggs in one basket, and it paid off.
Q. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
For the next five years, I see myself still immersed in school. I would still love to work at Bassett throughout my school career.
Q. Any advice for those pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering?
One piece of advice is not to give up. There are many instances when you will compare yourself to those around you. You are enough. Push yourself to do what you want and to achieve your dreams.
